Richard C. Engel joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2003 and is a partner of the firm, concentrating his practice in securities law, securities regulation and securities fraud, as well as banking and IDA financing, business, corporate and education law. He specifically handles securities litigation and arbitration before the NASD, private offerings and placements, and federal and state regulatory compliance relating to securities and corporate governance. His clients include the most prominent investment firms in Central New York, whose trust and confidence Rich has earned through his years of experience in counseling them through their securities issues, both complex and routine, and guiding them to regulatory compliance. Rich also represents individual investors in claims arising from securities disputes. He also counsels several municipal clients including the Fayetteville-Manlius Central School District. He periodically lectures on securities law topics at LeMoyne College in Syracuse, New York.

After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986 from Boston College, Rich attended Syracuse University College of Law, where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1989. He was admitted to the New York State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York in 1990. He is a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association and the Association of Trial Lawyers of America. In addition, Rich has briefed and argued appeals before several appellate courts, including New York’s highest court, the New York State Court of Appeals. He serves as an Arbitrator in the City Court for the City of Syracuse. Prior to joining Mackenzie Hughes, Rich practiced law at Engel & Engel, a leading securities law firm in Central New York.

Rich was recognized in 2003 by The Central New York Business Journal as one of "40 under 40," an honor that was awarded to the top 40 Central New York leaders under age 40 for their impact in making the region a better place to work and live. Rich's community involvement includes participation with the Volunteer Lawyer's Project, Onondaga County Bar Association's pro bono program and service as a judge for the Syracuse University College of Law and New York State Bar Association moot court competitions. He is the Fifth Judicial District representative for Real Property Law Section of the New York State Bar Association. Rich volunteers legal services and is on the fundraising and gift gathering committee for University Hospital's C.N.Y. Association for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders. He is also on the fundraising committee for the National Kidney Foundation of Central New York. He is an active parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville, New York.

In Rich’s spare time, he enjoys outdoor sports such as downhill skiing, fishing, canoeing, scuba diving and spending time in the Adirondacks and Thousand Islands with his wife, who is also an attorney, and their three children.
