Maureen Dunn McGlynn joined Mackenzie Hughes in 1997 and is now a partner
in the firm's business department. Her emphasis is in health care law
as she advises, counsels and litigates for hospitals, physicians, physician
practice groups, dentists, diagnostic and treatment centers, and other
health care providers. Areas in which she advises include practice management
issues, patient care issues, medical staff issues, managed care contracting
issues, and federal and state regulatory matters including Stark law,
HIPAA, fraud and abuse and EMTALA Compliance. She is also a frequent lecturer
on issues involving the privacy of medical information including HIPAA
and other federal and state regulatory compliance issues.
After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from the
University of Scranton, Maureen attended Widener University School of
Law, where she graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate. While a student,
Maureen served as President of the Moot Court Honor Society, Chairperson
of the Health Law Society and Order of the Barristers. She was also the
recipient of the Widener University School of Law Outstanding Service
Award, American Jurisprudence Awards in Torts and Legal Writing, and the
Raynes, McCarty, Binder, Ross & Mundy Writing Competition Award. She
is admitted to the Delaware Bar, the District of Delaware, the U.S. Court
of Appeals, 3rd Circuit, and the New York Bar, and the Northern District
of New York
Prior to her employment at Mackenzie Hughes, Maureen was an attorney
at Young, Conaway, Stargatt & Taylor, where she advised health care
providers on issues including reimbursement, managed care contracting,
formation of networks, risk management and fraud and abuse/Stark issues.
She also handled medical malpractice, personal injury and product liability
matters as well as corporate litigation and representation of debtors
and creditors' committees in large and complex reorganizations. She spent
two years at St. Camillus Health & Rehabilitation Center as a Pediatric
Physical Therapist evaluating and treating infants and young children
with neuromotor involvement, orthopedic and neurological conditions, pathological
muscle tone problems and movement disorders caused by muskuloskeletal
pathology.
Maureen is a member of the Board of the Upstate Medical University Foundation
and she serves on the Board of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of
Central New York as the Immediate Past President. Maureen is a former
member of the Executive Committee and the Quality Assurance Committee
of the Board of Directors of St. Camillus Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She is also a former member of the Catholic Schools Management Strategic
Planning Committee for St. Margaret's School and former Junior Achievement
Consultant for elementary schools.
When Maureen isn't busy with her responsibilities as part of the American
Bar Association, the American Health Lawyers Association, the Onondaga
County Bar Association, or the New York Bar Association, she enjoys raising
her three children and attending their various sporting events.
