Mark R. Schlegel joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2001 as an associate attorney
in the litigation department and was elected to the partnership in 2008.
His practice focuses on civil litigation, including commercial disputes,
commercial and residential evictions, and the defense of personal injury,
products liability, and mass tort cases, in both state and federal court
at the trial and appellate court levels.
He is a 1995 graduate of Cornell University, where he received an A.B.
in Government with a concentration in Science & Technology Studies.
He then went on to study at the Syracuse University College of Law, where
he graduated cum laude with a Juris Doctorate in December 1999.
Mark was admitted to the New York State Bar in June 2000. He was also
admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District
of New York in 2003, the U.S. District Court for the Western District
of New York in 2011, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Second
Circuit in 2008. He was also admitted to practice in the courts of the
Oneida Indian Nation in 2010.
A member of the Onondaga County, New York State, and American Bar Associations,
Mark is also a board member of the Central New York Jazz Arts Foundation,
where he serves as the Chairman of the Governance Committee. He also serves
as a Volunteer Arbitrator in Syracuse City Court, where he conducts hearings
related to small claims disputes.
When Mark has time to spare, he spends his time reading about military
history and astronomy, attending concerts and sporting events, and spending
time with his wife and young son.
