Elizabeth Hartnett Elected Chair of New York Bar Association’s Trusts and Estates Section

Elizabeth A. Hartnett, a partner at Mackenzie Hughes LLP, has been elected as the new chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Trusts and Estates section, an organization with 5,209 attorney members. “To be elected as the chair of this section of the New York State Bar Association is a tremendous honor,” said Steve Helmer, partner and chairman of the executive committee at Mackenzie Hughes. “It shows the amount of respect Betsy’s peers in the legal profession have for her across the state.” With 34 years of experience providing wealth management services to some of the most prominent individuals, families, businesses, trustees and charities in the region, Hartnett’s practice focuses in areas such as estate planning and settlement, charitable and specialty trusts, fiduciary services, family business and business tax and succession planning. She is also responsible for advising investments through the sister firm Mackenzie Hughes & Hartnett Investment Advisors, LLP. Hartnett most recently served as chair-elect of the Trusts and Estates Law Section on the New York Bar Association. She is also a member of the Senior Lawyers, Tax, and Business Law sections and is a fellow of the New York Bar Foundation. Hartnett is a fellow of the American College of Trusts and Estates Counsel, the chair of the board for Crouse Hospital and past chair of the Syracuse Stage Board. Recognized as “Lawyer of the Year” for trusts and estates law in the Syracuse market in 2011 by Best Lawyers in America, Hartnett has been named a “Best Lawyer“ in the Trusts and Estates Section for the past 15 years. She was also named one of the “25 Top Women Attorneys” in the 2008 and 2009 New York Super Lawyers Upstate Editions. Hartnett holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a doctorate in law degree from Syracuse University. In 1975, she was admitted to the New York State Bar Association and became a licensed Certified Public Accountant.
