Mackenzie Hughes’ McGuire Honored as a 2019 “40 Under Forty” Award Recipient

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Jillian DiLaura McGuire, a family law attorney at Mackenzie Hughes LLP, has been named a 2019 “40 Under Forty” award recipient.

The “40 Under Forty” award recognizes young leaders who excel in the workplace and give back to the community,” said Anne Ruffer, managing partner at Mackenzie Hughes. “Jillian is certainly more than deserving of the award. She does an outstanding job leading the firm’s domestic relations and matrimonial law practice and gives a countless number of hours of her time to many wonderful organizations in our community. We’re thrilled Jillian is being recognized for her many accomplishments.”

In her role as a family law attorney, McGuire’s practice focuses on all aspects of divorce, custody, equitable distribution of assets, and child/spousal support, as well as separation agreements, prenuptial agreements, and postnuptial agreements. She also assists with adoptions, including step-parent adoption and represents clients in matters concerning domestic violence orders of protection.

McGuire serves as vice president of the board of directors at the Central New York Women’s Bar Association, and on the board of directors at Hiscock Legal Aid Society and the Onondaga County Bar Foundation. She also volunteers at the Onondaga County Family Law Clinic. She is the recipient of the 2018 Hanna S. Cohn Pro Bono Award from the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York and the Onondaga County Distinguished Pro Bono Service Award in 2014. McGuire was also recognized for her contributions to pro bono service by the Empire State Counsel in 2014.

Recognized by Upstate New York SuperLawyers as a “Rising Star” every year since 2014 and as a Maryland SuperLawyers “Rising Star” between 2010 to 2013, McGuire joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2013 from a boutique family law firm in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, where her practice concentrated on all aspects of family law. Prior to that, she served as a judicial law clerk for the Circuit Court of Frederick County, Maryland.

A Syracuse native and graduate of East Syracuse Minoa Central High School, McGuire received her bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts and her juris doctorate from Washington and Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia.

McGuire will receive the “40 Under Forty” award on the evening of November 6, 2019 at the Nicholas J. Pirro Convention Center.
