Mackenzie Hughes Partner to Receive the Chancellor’s Citation for Distinguished Achievement from Syracuse University

In recognition of Syracuse University alumni “who have attained unusual success in their chosen careers,” Ramon Rivera, an immigration attorney and partner at Mackenzie Hughes LLP, will receive the Chancellor’s Citation for Distinguished Achievement for his work in law.

The award will be presented at the gala dinner dance during Coming Back Together X, a reunion of African American and Latino alumni held on September 24, 2011.

In addition to his immigration work for Mackenzie Hughes, Rivera is a member of the Onondaga County Bar Association and the Immigration Law Association. Rivera lectures at the Onondaga County Bar Association’s continuing legal education program on the topic of business immigration and teaches as an adjunct professor at Syracuse University College of Law.

Rivera also acts as a small claims arbitrator at Syracuse City Court.

In the past, Rivera served on the Board of Directors of the International Center for Syracuse, Leadership Greater Syracuse, and the CNY Girl Scouts Audit Committee. In 2009, Rivera volunteered hours of pro bono legal immigration work for the people affected by the shooting in April at the American Civic Association in Binghamton, N.Y., where he serves as their immigration liaison.

In addition, he assisted in the writing of the book “Immigration Strategies for Companies.” Rivera wrote the chapter entitled “What Your Company Needs to Know about Immigration in Today’s Economic and Regulatory Environment.”

A “40 Under 40” award recipient and listed as one of the “Best Lawyers in America” from 2010 to 2012 for immigration law, Rivera received his bachelor’s degree from the University of California and his Juris Doctorate from Syracuse University College of Law
