Mark R. Schlegel

Mark joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2001 as an associate attorney in the litigation department and was elected to the partnership in 2008. Mark is also a member of the Firm’s Executive Committee.  His practice focuses on civil litigation, including commercial disputes, commercial and residential evictions, and the defense of personal injury, products liability, and mass tort cases, in both state and federal court at the trial and appellate court levels.  When Mark has time to spare, he spends his time reading about military history and astronomy, attending concerts and sporting events, and spending time with his wife and young sons.

  • Over twenty-three years of commercial, medical malpractice, and personal injury litigation experience in state and federal courts.
  • Serves as the Prosecutor for the Oneida Indian Nation since 2017.
  • Has worked with numerous insurance carriers, businesses, and civic and religious organizations in the successful resolution of a variety of cases either by motion or at trial.
  • Over 20 years defending the Central New York Regional Transportation Authority in personal injury litigation.
  • Worked as an intern with the Office of the General Counsel for the Federal Communications Commission in Washington, DC in 1999.
  • Joined Mackenzie Hughes in 2001. Elected to the partnership in 2009 and the firm’s Executive Committee in 2018.
  • Co-chair of the firm’s Litigation Department since 2022.
